Explainer: what is behind ESG fund outflows?

With money pouring out of sustainable funds, experts are citing poor ESG fund performance, a difficult economic backdrop and anti-ESG sentiment as primary factors.

Net flows into global sustainable funds sat at $18bn at the end of the second quarter 2023, representing a significant drop from the $31bn recorded in the prior quarter, according to Morningstar.
