The UK Advertising Standards Authority has banned advertisements by oil and gas companies Shell, Repsol and Petronas because it found they included climate and environmental claims that were misleading. Earlier this year, the regulator took action against so-called greenwashing adverts by airlines Etihad Airways and Lufthansa. It previously also targeted the consumer sector, banning adverts from Tesco and Unilever over their environmental credentials. Last year, the UK regulator took down an advertisement campaign by HSBC, ruling it misstated the bank’s green credentials.
