Why cities are struggling to go carbon neutral

Despite their ambitions, the world’s major cities are still falling short of their net zero targets. Increased local powers and the ability to raise long-term blended finance are crucial to reducing emissions, say leaders in the C40 network.

Ask someone to single out a country they consider sustainable and chances are they will cite Denmark, with its impressive reliance on wind power and other sources of renewable energy. And if any city can reach an ambitious net zero target, Danish capital Copenhagen – with its kilometres of bike lanes and fleet of water taxis – would seem a safe bet.
