The US Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final rule on methane emissions reporting for the oil and gas sector. The revisions to the EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program aim to bring transparency and accountability for these emissions, and is a significant component of the Inflation Reduction Act’s Methane Emissions Reduction Program. The updated rule includes provisions that improve quantification of methane emissions and that enable the use of advanced technologies to measure emissions, such as satellites.
