Developers say small modular reactors offer a cheaper and quicker route to nuclear power than conventional reactors, but experts suggest SMRs may run into the same challenges as their larger predecessors

Nuclear power plants that are carbon emissions-free at the point of energy production are often touted as a key solution in the race to net zero, yet delayed deployment timelines and spiralling budgets, not to mention the issue of nuclear waste, make them for many a much less attractive proposition than renewables.
